ROYAL TREATMENT
In the past 10 years, my husband and I have
visited 47 clubs. The most recent club was the beautiful Metropolitan
Club in Austin, Texas, where we were warmly welcomed and treated
royally. [Dining-room night captain] Russell Gaskamp and the staff are to be
commended for their gracious behavior toward two strangers. How fortunate we are
to have these havens in our travels.

TENDER THANKS
This note is past due, but a recent article in
Private
Clubs [“Clubs & Members,” November/December 1999] reminded me to
write and express my thanks for the Christmas party held at Brookhaven
Country Club, near Dallas, for the children who go to Children’s
Medical Center. My grandson, Adam Groza, is a patient at Children’s. He was
diagnosed with leukemia 2 1/2 years ago. He first went to the party in 1997 and
had a blast. My daughter-in-law took a video of the party so we got to see how
happy he was.
I am happy to say that Adam is doing well. He still goes
to Children’s every week and the people there are great. Thank you again,
Brookhaven, for sponsoring this very special party for some very special kids
and their families.

HAVEN ON EARTH
On our first visit to The
Homestead,
we were greeted with the delightful vista of that grand historical resort
nestled among the mountains of Hot Springs, Virginia. Our pleasure increased as
we entered and viewed the Grand Hall with the gigantic Christmas tree at the
end. The views from the suite were magnificent. Our tour revealed it was a
well-preserved haven.
While at The Homestead, we were welcomed, pampered,
spoiled, and indulged by the wonderful staff. From Erica Harval and Maggie
Marion at the front desk, Pete Richmond and Doug Russell at the spa, Barry Ryder
at the pro shop, Pamela Deel, Woody Pettus, and Nestor Pascual in the dining
room, and John West, the pianist, we received the most courteous service and
consideration. If there was anything lacking at The Homestead, you would not
know it because of the efficiency of the wonderful staff.
Thank you for making our stay the best. We already are
planning our next visit.

PLAZA SWEET
My wife and I were recently married at the Plaza
Club in Houston. I want to compliment the staff of the club for doing
an outstanding job. The food was excellent and the service staff seemed to
anticipate our every need. Everyone in attendance was very impressed.

MOST ENJOYABLE
We want to extend our thanks to the staff of Denver’s Metropolitan
Club for the wonderful evening we enjoyed while on vacation. The
staff was very professional, yet extremely friendly. Our waiters, Dax Itow and
Steve Phu (who prepares the best Caesar salad ever), are to be complimented.
Dax’s advice on the wine selection was extremely knowledgeable and fit our
taste buds perfectly. We usually make our travel arrangements so that we can
visit the various clubs. This visit to the Metropolitan Club was No. 29 and
ranks in the upper five of our “most enjoyed clubs.”
