ASSOCIATE CLUB OPENING
Bear’s Best Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada
Bear’s Best Las Vegas, the first of a branded concept of daily-fee golf clubs, opens in early November about 10 miles west of the Las Vegas strip in the Summerlin master-planned community. The 18-hole golf course features replications of some of Jack Nicklaus’ favorite holes from his own designs around the world, including No. 15 at Mt. Juliet in Ireland. The course winds through Las Vegas’ desert terrain and each hole blends naturally with the topography of the area. The clubhouse, called Jack’s Place, features Nicklaus memorabilia, banquet and dining facilities, a pro shop, and is designed to accommodate small groups and corporate entertainment. A 5,000-square-foot covered patio overlooks the Red Rock Mountains and the lights of Las Vegas. Bear’s Best Atlanta is slated to open in the summer.

NEW INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATE CLUB
Cozumel Country Club

Cozumel, Mexico
Cozumel Country Club, featuring an 18-hole, 6,847-yard course designed by Nicklaus Design, is now open for play. Amenities include a practice area, putting and chipping green, practice bunker, two-tiered practice tee, rustic native palapa-style clubhouse with a casual dining room, and pro shop. The fairways were carefully constructed to preserve the island’s native trees and natural wetlands. Located on the northern side of the island, just 5 miles from the international cruise ship pier.

CLUB NEWS
A Tom Weiskopf-designed, 18-hole, par-72 golf course opens in early November at Vista Vallarta on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. The course complements the existing Jack Nicklaus-designed champion-ship course at Vista Vallarta. Both courses are built on the rolling terrain overlooking Puerto Vallarta.

• The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Vista Vallarta has been selected by the International Federation of PGA Tours as the site for the 2002 World Golf Championships-EMC World Cup to be played Dec. 10-15, 2002.

Indian Wells Country Club near Palm Springs, California, has expanded from 27 holes to 36 holes. The holes will be divided into two courses: the Classic Course, site of the annual Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (Jan. 14-20), with fairways tightly guarded by massive eucalyptus trees; and the Cove Course, with rolling, open terrain.

• The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic has a redesigned Web site (www.bhcc.com) that provides tournament history, ticket information, access to news releases, and more. During the tournament, the Web site will provide daily updates and news.

Traditions Golf & Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas, recently held a construction party on the grounds of what will be a new Jack Nicklaus-designed, 18-hole, 7,300-yard golf course. The first phase of construction will be complete in fall 2002 and will include the course, a pro shop, a teaching center, and a snack bar. A clubhouse will be added in 2003.
