NATIONWIDE TOUR EVENT AT DIAMANTE
The First Tee Arkansas Classic will be played at Diamante in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, April 12-18. Last year’s winner, Ted Purdy, secured his first Nationwide Tour championship only after a three-hole playoff. The tournament benefits The First Tee Arkansas, an association of golf organizations that have partnered to teach life skills to children using golf as the focus.


NABISCO CHAMPIONSHIP AT MISSION HILLS
The first major tournament of the LPGA’s 2004 season will take place at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, March 25-28. The competition for this year’s tournament is sure to be tough as the first- and second-place winners, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc and Annika Sorenstam, battle once again for the title. Lebouc finished last year with a final round score of 73 to finish at 7-under. Sorenstam posted a final round 71 to go 6-under for the tournament. CHICK-FIL-A TOURNAMENT AT EAGLE’S LANDING
The LPGA’s 13th annual Chick-fil-A Charity Championship Hosted by Nancy Lopez returns to Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia, April 26-May 2. In last year’s tournament, Se Ri Pak captured the title in a four-hole, sudden-death playoff with Shani Waugh. The tournament proceeds benefit the WinShape Homes and Adventures in Movement (AIM) for the Handicapped charities. PINEHURST GOLF CONFERENCE
Golf professionals and avid golfers will descend on Pinehurst in the Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina, for a four-day Pinehurst Golf Conference on various aspects of the game of golf. ASSOCIATE CLUB RENOVATIONS
Eagle’s Landing Country Club
The golf course at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia, near Atlanta, will become a 27-hole facility after a nine-hole expansion by noted golf course architect Tom Fazio. The new nine holes will open for play in the fall of 2005.

Golf Club at Indigo Run
Construction on a $1.1 million clubhouse expansion recently began at the Golf Club of Indigo Run on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The 19,000-square-foot redesigned clubhouse will include features such as a main bar with granite inlay and matching floor tile, a patio area with outdoor seating overlooking the 18th hole and a nearby lagoon, and new equipment in the kitchen. The renovations are scheduled to be complete in July.

WestLake Club
Renovations to the athletic facilities at the WestLake Club in Houston have increased the square footage and added a wireless audiovisual system to the cardiovascular equipment. Also, a second multipurpose exercise studio was built, and the basketball floor and steam room were upgraded.

Barbara Werley recently returned to The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, to resume her position as master sommelier and beverage director. Werley is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and is one of just 13 women in the world to have achieved the prestigious title of master sommelier. In addition to maintaining and updating the resort’s wine lists, Werley will contribute to The Homestead’s culinary vision. She previously served as the resort’s sommelier from 1992 to 1996.
