CLUBCORP NEWS
ClubCorp has announced an agreement with El Capitan Golf to manage El
Capitan Golf and Country Club, a 36-hole semi-private golf facility near
San Diego. The first 18 holes, designed by San Diego-based architect David
Fleming, are scheduled to open in the fall of 2006. Construction on the
clubhouse is set to begin in early 2007, and the second 18-hole golf course,
which will be private, is scheduled to be completed in summer 2007.
LPGA AT EAGLE’S LANDING
The Chick-fil-A Charity Championship Hosted by Nancy Lopez will be held
May 9-15 at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Last year’s winner, Jennifer Rosales, is scheduled to return to defend her
title and compete for the tournament’s $1.6 million purse. ESPN2 will
broadcast tournament play May 12-14. Proceeds from the 2004 tournament,
totaling more than $760,000, were donated to four charitable organizations:
WinShape Homes, Adventures in Movement (AIM) for the Handicapped, the East
Lake Community Foundation, and the Georgia State Golf Association-Yates
Foundation.
TWO RESORTS, ONE PACKAGE
Visit two resorts in one trip with a special package that includes
tickets to the U.S. Open Championship. The adventure begins at The
Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, and continues as guests are
transported to the airport to fly to Pinehurst in the Village of
Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the 2005 U.S. Open. The package includes

PEOPLE VS. THE PROS EVENT
People vs. the Pros, a golf tournament that will pit two amateurs
against professional golfers Ben Crenshaw and Justin Leonard, will be held
at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, Sept. 8-12. Amateurs
can qualify for this third edition of the tournament, in which players
compete for a $300,000 purse, either by playing in local qualifying
tournaments that will be held June 18-July 17, paying a winning bid on eBay,
or entering a sweepstakes on the tournament’s official Web site (www.pvpgolf.com).
ESPN will broadcast the event in prime time on Sept. 19.
CLUB RENOVATIONS
• Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas, has completed a $1.5
million renovation to the Queen’s Course that included rebuilding the
bunkers and adding new 419 Bermuda grass fairways and L93/Crenshaw bentgrass
greens.
• Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas, has completed a $1.5
million golf course renovation that included resurfacing the greens,
rebuilding the bunkers and adding white sand, and installing a new
irrigation system around the greens. The installation of new cart paths is
scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.
• Shady Valley Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, has completed
renovations to its clubhouse, which included new furniture, fixtures, and
carpet.
LAUREL SPRINGS GOLF CLUB GOES PRIVATE
Laurel Springs Golf Club in Suwanee, Georgia, has transitioned from
semi-private to private club status. Surrounded by a 630-acre community, the
club features an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, driving range,
and practice facility. Amenities include informal dining, bar and lounge,
pro shop, and locker rooms. Golf benefits for Associate and Signature Gold.
SPORTING CLAYS EVENT
The world’s top shotgunners will compete in the 14th Annual Homestead
Cup, a 200-target sporting clays championship to be held at The Homestead
in Hot Springs, Virginia, May 27-30. The Homestead Shooting Club
consists of four skeet fields, wobble trap, five-stand, and a world-class
Sporting Clays course that will serve as the site for the tournament. For

GOLF FOR GIRLS
The National Golf Course Owners Association, in cooperation with the
LPGA, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, EWGA, and Golf for Women magazine,
presents "Take Your Daughter to the Course Week," July 11-17. A searchable
online database to find participating golf courses can be found at
www.getlinkedplaygolf.com. Courses will offer a free green fee to girls
accompanied by a paying adult all during the week, and a free clinic some
time in the week. Many courses will offer additional special promotions.
Last year, more than 1,000 courses and 16,000 girls participated in this
event.
AUSTRALIAN FOOD & WINE
An Australian food and wine festival to celebrate the harvest "Down
Under" is coming soon to various Associate Clubs. Special lunch and dinner
menus will include Australian food specialties such as lamb, beef, seafood,
vegetables, and fruits, as well as wine selections from vintners, including
Greg Norman Estates and Wolf Blass. Beer drinkers will enjoy Foster’s, the
quintessential Aussie refreshment. Adding to the fun: a children’s menu,
winemaker dinners, food and wine pairing classes, and Australian-themed

ESPN SEARCHES AMERICA FOR BEST 2 SOME
Qualifying rounds for the ESPN National Golf Challenge, "America’s Best
2 Some," will be held at ClubCorp golf and country clubs through June 30.
The contest is a two-person, better-ball amateur tournament designed to find
the best twosome of U.S. golfers in both gross and net divisions. Teams may
consist of any combination of male and/or female participants with a maximum
allowable handicap of 24 strokes (in the net division), and players may
attempt to qualify for the regional finals at as many local host sites as
they wish. Gross and net winners from each regional finals location will

HOLE-IN-ONE CONTEST
An ace in the hole will get some lucky golfers a free golf vacation at

The Motor City will serve as the site for Major League Baseball’s 2005

Jacksonville (Florida) Society
