RENOVATIONS
• Construction continues on a $2.5 million, 5,000-square-foot fitness
facility at Country Club of Hilton Head in South Carolina. The
facility, scheduled to open this fall, will include a cardiovascular room,
resistance equipment, group fitness studio, free-weight room, child care
facilities, fitness classes, and personal training sessions.
• A new 18,000-square-foot fitness center at Haile Plantation Golf &
Country Club in Gainesville, Florida, was scheduled to open by year-end
2006. The former fitness center is being converted into classroom space and
a personal training facility.
• Quail Hollow Country Club in Concord, Ohio, recently broke ground
on a 18,000-square-foot clubhouse. In addition, the club is undergoing
renovations to include a 2,600-square-foot covered terrace for outdoor
dining, a junior Olympic-size pool, three indoor dining areas, locker rooms,
fitness and aerobics facilities, a golf pro shop, and parking for up to 300
cars.

CLUB NEWS
• ClubCorp has acquired Anthem Golf & Country Club, located
within a gated country club community north of Phoenix. The club features
two clubhouses, two Greg Nash-designed courses, two fitness centers, two
resort-style pools, and more. The burgeoning Anthem area covers 5,800 acres
and will have more than 12,000 homes at buildout.
• Dennis Ralston, a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, is
offering tennis camps at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage,
California. The schedule: Jan. 5-7, 12-14; Feb. 9-11, 23-25; March 9-11;
April 20-22.
• The Buckhead Club in Atlanta will relocate in September 2008 to a
building being developed across the street from the club’s current location
in the Atlanta Financial Center. The new building will feature expanded
meeting and banquet rooms, a large ballroom, a variety of dining options,
high-end retail, and more.
• T.K. Wetherell, a member of University Center Club and president of
Florida State University, produced and appeared as Gen. George Patton in
FSU’s USO Tribute Show, a salute to the armed forces and to performers who
have entertained troops. Television negotiations are under way for February
dates for the show to air in Florida markets and possibly on national
television.

INDUSTRY NEWS
• The Environmental Institute for Golf has named the Toro Co., the
landscaping equipment company, as the first member of the Institute’s
Victory Club, recognizing Toro for donating more than $1 million during the
past 19 years to environmental efforts within the golf community.
• Patty Berg, one of 13 women who co-founded the LPGA Tour in 1950, died
Sept. 10 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 88. The LPGA
Tour’s first president won 15 LPGA major championships and was a three-time
winner of the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.
• The PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame has inducted seven new members:
Jack Nicklaus, Roger Warren, Manuel de la Torre, Bill Eschenbrenner, William
Heald, Dow Finsterwald, and Gary Wiren.
