PASSION FOR FASHION Photography by John Everett The first Fashion Week Live series, presented by Sephora, took glamour and style on tour this year. Come with us under the fashion tent in Houston for memorable looks from the fall collections of top designers — and worn by the likes of models Naomi Campbell and Gemma Ward. Runway categories included day, color, men, cocktail, evening, and a few chic offerings in between. What did we see? Eye-popping jewel tones. Metallics. Classic warm neutrals. Off-the-shoulder styling. Shape combined with comfort. Sexy sizzle. Light-as-air clothing. Unexpected constructions. Fabulous coats and toppers. And, we learned, black is still important. FAST FASHION FACTS • Native Australian Gemma Ward’s big break as a model came when casting director Russell Marsh booked her exclusively to appear in Prada’s spring 2002 runway show in Milan. • In his fall collection for men, designer John Varvatos has crafted a friendly alliance between prepster and punk. He presents worn-in layers in mixed patterns and musty, muddied colors. • Naomi Campbell, in her 21st year as a supermodel, was the first black to appear on the covers of Time and British and French Vogue. Born in Streatham, England, she is of Caribbean and Chinese decent. • Designer Peter Som says the fall season is inspired by the craft of clothes — the art of dressmaking. Thus, seams are exposed, and beauty is discovered “inside out.” FEATURED FASHION DESIGNERS: adampluseve Chado Ralph Rucci Donna Karan Ellen Tracy Isaac Mizrahi John Varvatos Luca Luca Marc Jacobs Michael Kors Peter Som Tracy Reese Zac Posen |
