FITNESS CLASSES
Ten-year-old
Blair Danahey takes fitness seriously and loves it. Blair, the daughter of
Jacquie and Kevin Danahey, members of
Knollwood Country Club in Granger,
Indiana, is toning up in the club’s new triathlon training program for kids.
Three or four days a week, she and other fitness lovers work with the club’s
swim coach, then those tall enough to use the stationary bikes do some
sweat-inducing cycling. All the kids get cardio training in the aerobics room
and upper-body workouts in the weight room. Knollwood will hold its first
triathlon for kids in August, and Blair plans to go for gold.
In fitness classes at
Haile Plantation Golf & Country Club in Gainesville,
Florida, kids get moving in Zumba classes — high-octane workouts to upbeat music
from around the world. Besides folk dances, they learn the latest steps from
countries like Kenya, Russia, and tango’s birthplace, Argentina.
Brookhaven Country Club near Dallas offers kids everything from ballet classes
and basic motor-skills training for various sports to aerobically fashioned
relay tag races. During the club’s summer camps, kids learn tumbling and martial
arts, including kickboxing in the pool.
