DRIVERS
If ever a driver was aptly named, TaylorMade’s r7 CGB Max is it.
According to company literature, the “Max” represents maximum distance,
maximum forgiveness, and maximum performance. Characterized by its
triangular shape and bold red and black colors, the r7 CGB Max utilizes
TaylorMade’s renowned Movable Weight Technology. In the Max, there are three
weights: one in the toe, one in the heel, and one in the very back. By
adjusting the weights, a golfer can promote a specific ball flight. Like all
of TaylorMade’s drivers, the r7 CGB Max incorporates the Inverted Cone
clubface technology, which delivers higher ball speed when you miss the
center of the club. Retail price: $499
New, too: Titleist 907D2, Nike SQ Sumo2 5900
Trend: Different clubhead shapes like squares and triangles will
continue as options. Designers constantly strive for clubhead faces with
large sweet spots that allow for mishits without over-penalizing distance
and accuracy. Increasingly, more attention is paid to the type and quality
of shaft in off-the-shelf drivers.
