ROYALLY SPOILED Art-packed palaces. Stately manor homes. See how English blue bloods have lived for centuries — and sample the privileged lifestyle yourself. Trust us, you’ll like it. The
history of Stapleford Park, a country sporting estate in Leicestershire,
England, stretches back nearly 700 years. For nearly five centuries, Stapleford
Park belonged to the Earls of Harborough. Today, it is a beautiful manor hotel
with its formal walled gardens, golf course, indoor swimming pool, tennis
courts, and a spa carved out of the Victorian stable block. Writer Aaron Dalton
traveled to England explicitly to see the country’s royal side, and his
experience at Stapleford Park shows it is possible today to get a firsthand
taste of what royal life was like. In the May/June issue of Private Clubs,
Dalton tours England’s manors and countrysides, taking in Althorp House, where
Princess Diana grew up, as well as Fawsley Hall and Chatsworth House, to provide
a historic view of the land usually experienced only by the royal few. Photography by Stephen Hyde. |
