The Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy takes place June 28.

Around the Globe Summer 2014

June 28
Cheer on more than 25 teams as they hustle down the Chicago River in boats bedecked with colorful, carved dragon heads at the one-day Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy. Before the race, watch a traditional Chinese lion dance performance. Afterward, stick around for the awards ceremony, booths, food trucks, and musical and dance performances. Proceeds benefit Chicago-area schools, libraries, and organizations promoting literacy.

July 10
Take your meditation experience to the next level at the Telluride Yoga Festival (July 10-13) in Colorado. Kick off the four-day weekend with a group via ferrata climb with views of Bridal Veil Falls. Choose from more than 85 interactive classes and lectures, such as "Hot Vinyasa Flow" and "Practices for Healing and Strengthening the Bones, Joints, and Nerves" - some outdoors with the picturesque Rockies as a backdrop.

July 25
Like a hot dog needs a bun, baseball and summer just go together. During Hall of Fame Weekend (July 25-28) in Cooperstown, N.Y., witness baseball greats including Tony La Russa, Greg Maddux, and Joe Torre get officially inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Then, salute more than 50 past Hall of Famers at a parade, and get tips on making double plays from legend Ozzie Smith.

Aug. 1
Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz at Oz Con International (Aug. 1-7) in Coronado, Calif., the town where L. Frank Baum penned several Emerald City tales. Stroll through an exhibit featuring Oz book illustrations and graphic-novel art, tour the grounds of Baum's winter home, watch musical productions, and screen the timeless film in 3-D.

Aug. 20
During International Beatleweek (Aug. 20-26) in Liverpool, England, Beatles cover bands bring you more than 15 hours each day of Fab Four hits. Bid on rare memorabilia, bus to landmarks such as John Lennon's childhood home, and don't miss the speakers, flea market, exhibitions, and films at Sunday's convention.
