What’s up and what’s coming next at this just-added club near Atlanta

Now that Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, Ga., has joined the ClubCorp family of clubs, you have even more options in the Atlanta area. With interior improvements for the 24-year-old clubhouse on the horizon and golf course renovations already under way, this new kid on the block will keep getting even better. Here is a run-through of the club’s most fetching attributes.

On the ball: In August, greens renovations on the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course began. Additional golf upgrades, scheduled to be completed along with the greens in March 2011, include laser-leveling 23 tee boxes, redecking or rebuilding 13 bridges, and replacing concrete cart paths along five holes. The club’s parking lot also will be repaired, sealed, and striped.

Clubhouse appeal: Nestled among pine, oak, and dogwood trees, the more than 60,000-square-foot, tri-level home base has a warm, mountain-lodge feel. A large stone fireplace greets you in the lobby, and floor-to-ceiling windows along the back of the clubhouse bring the outside in. Savor a meal in the Clubroom, the Lounge, or the grill. For special occasions, reserve the private dining room.

Stay awhile: If your guests need accommodations or you just want to get away from home for a bit, the four-bedroom villa is a great place to unwind. With views of the 18th hole, the private abode features a complete kitchen, a dining room that can double as conference space, a laundry room, and living areas. Not in the mood to cook or pick up after yourself? The club’s got you covered with catering and maid services.

More amenities: Check out the club’s other unique features, like a Junior Olympic swimming pool, a wading pool, 12 tennis courts with spectator seating, an elegant 6,000-square-foot ballroom with wood-beamed ceiling, and the Learning Center, where you can receive golf instruction from PGA professionals, get custom-fit for clubs, and establish a golf-specific workout regimen.
