So You Want to ... Sip Fine Cognac

BY JILL ROBINSON

Louis XIII - a blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie from the most coveted growing area of France's Cognac region - has been recognized as one of the world's finest cognacs. This luxurious blend evokes tastes and scents of plum, honey, immortelle, honeysuckle, bark, and leather. To honor its history, which dates back to 1874, the brand just launched the Time Collection, in which this exclusive French brandy will be bottled in a series of limited-edition decanters, each recognizing a chapter in the brand's life. The first in the series - the Origin-1874 - pays tribute to the original Louis XIII decanter, modeled after an ancient royal flask found at a historic French battle site. Made of pure Saint-Louis crystal, the Origin features dentelle spikes and a stopper in the form of an upturned decanter. It comes in a handsome metal case with a sleek woven texture, a modern take on the wicker baskets in which the original bottles came packed. Additional decanters in the series will be released every two years.

Details: $5,000/750mL. Available globally at select fine wine and spirits stores. louisxiii-cognac.com
