Scoop: This authentic Southern Brazilian steakhouse, founded in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1979, expanded into the U.S. nearly 20 years ago and has been growing ever since. The company now has 37 locations in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S. Focused on customized dining experiences, each Fogo restaurant features a large selection of meats - steak, chicken, lamb, and pork - carved tableside by Brazilian-trained gaucho chefs. Guests also can select from a Market Table packed with seasonal salads, fresh veggies, cured meats, and imported cheeses. With an extensive wine list and signature Brazilian cocktails, Fogo recently received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

What's new: This fall and winter, Fogo plans to open new locations in Naperville, Ill.; New Orleans; San Francisco; Summerlin, Nev.; and the Woodlands, Texas. Earlier this year, it added new restaurants in Mexico City, Rio de Janiero, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. At all of the company's locations, the rebranded bar - Bar Fogo - now features happy hour specials and Brazilian-inspired small plates. Last year, the company introduced seafood options to its menu and opened a restaurant in San Jose, Calif., its first Bay Area location.
