Scoop: Unwinding along a sprawling 504 acres in Newport Beach, Calif., this Five-Star, Five-Diamond getaway brings Italian Renaissance-inspired sophistication to the Pacific Coast. The 204 guest rooms and suites and 128 two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas feature elegant touches such as handcrafted wood-beam ceilings, Italian limestone-framed fireplaces, marble bathtubs, 500-thread-count linens, and private terraces. Its six on-site dining venues include Andrea Ristorante with a Tuscan-influenced menu, and the 23,000-square-foot spa features 22 private treatment rooms, steam rooms, saunas, and saltwater Roman soaking tubs.

What's new: The resort's two 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, perennials on annual "best of" lists, recently placed on Golf Digest's 2015-16 list of "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses." This year, the Golf Academy, under the direction of Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher Glenn Deck, unveiled a lineup of new instruction packages, including half-day and weekend programs. In May, the spa introduces a Mother's Day Spa Suite Retreat designed for four to eight guests, including treatments, a spa cuisine lunch, and Prosecco.
